Community Life Within/Beyond Gates
Yufeng Yang discusses his PhD research, which aims to contribute to the debate on how gated housing affects people’s social lives from a spatial perspective. Studying twelve housing areas in China, he investigates if and how gated and non-gated housing communities affect residents’ co-presence patterns and social interactions. He then explores how these models embed into (or interact with) their larger neighbourhoods and how this interrelationship, in return, affects public lives around housing areas.
Biography
Yufeng Yang is a PhD candidate at The Bartlett School of Architecture on the programme Architectural Space & Computation MPhil/PhD.
