OMEGA Seminar: 21st Century Megaproject Port Development & Logistics
Prospects & problems in the use of blockchain

Port and logistics services will continue to evolve. One of the main drivers of industry transformation is the digitization of major parts or the economy and society. Currently, supply chains of which ports and logistics are a part are in the phase of integration and synchronization as the preparation for larger scale automation and the smartening of the system. This development brings innovations like platforms and digital marketplaces, autonomous zero emission vehicles, regional offerings and innovative ways to manage risks in the global demand and supply system. Blockchain allows decentralizing the management of megaprojects. In projects with significant metadata, such as construction, scaling could be a challenge due to the current limitations of the technology. Where the technology can cope significant improvements can be achieved. The utilization of smart contracts helps to automate project management processes and avoid waste of time and money. Time will tell what blockchain can really bring.
