About
The exhibition will include work created by young people who have participated in the 2018/19 Accelerate programme. Since September, students have responded to the theme of ‘grain’ and have considered the grain of the city on a macro and micro scale through drawing, printing, collage and model making.
Students have also worked with their mentor architects to design interventions for existing public spaces throughout London. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to enjoy the student’s experiments, explorations and responses to the grain of London.

Accelerate
Accelerate was developed and established in 2012 by Open City, in partnership with The Bartlett School of Architecture. So far over 200 students have taken part and benefited from the programme, with 70% of Accelerate participants securing conditional offers to study architecture and related subjects at universities including Cambridge, Bath, Manchester and The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL.
Accelerate widens participation and diversity in the industry. It gives sixth form students from non-traditional backgrounds the confidence and skills required to make strong applications to study architecture and subjects linked to the built environment. The aim of the programme is to create a more representative demographic group who can shape the future built environment.
Each annual student cohort follows a set programme of workshops and mentoring to develop observation, design and model-making skills so they can start thinking and working like architects. The workshops are led by university tutors, practicing artists and built environment professionals.
Following on from the skills development workshops, students take part in a three-month mentoring programme with professional architects with a design brief at its core, set by Open City and The Bartlett School of Architecture.
