Ian Hogarth

Entrepreneur and angel investor

Ian Hogarth is an entrepreneur and angel investor with a background in machine learning. He co-founded and ran Songkick, the concert service used by 17m people each month. He is the co-author of the State of AI Report, and in 2018 he wrote a widely citied essay, AI Nationalism, on the geopolitical implications of continued rapid progress in machine learning.

As Associate Director, Carol Sinclair is responsible for a varied strategic portfolio within the Public Health and Intelligence unit of NHS National Services Scotland. A keen advocate for innovation across the public sector, she is a founding Challenge Sponsor in the Scottish Government’s CivTech® programme and is a member of its Advisory Board.

UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose

This event is chaired by IIPP Deputy Director Rainer Kattel. Rainer is Professor of Innovation and Public Governance at University College London (UCL). He is a renowned expert on thinking about creativity within public administration, working for the OECD, UNDP and the European Commission. He is a co-author of Innovation Bureaucracies (forthcoming 2019), which will be the first book-length study on the topic.
