The Bartlett Research Conversations
MPhil/PhD student Abdullah Ahmed AlDabbous discusses his research on affordable housing in the City

The socio-spatial study of affordable housing in the Square Mile: A case for local provision policies
Abdullah Ahmed AlDabbous
Supervisors: Professors Peter Bishop and Murray Fraser
Through engaging with the physical facet of Henri Lefebvre’s Right to the City, Abdullah’s research focusses on maximising the value of the City in relation to affordable housing. He achieves this by analysing the spatial potential of the City’s existing few residential wards in relation to estate densification.
Abdullah uses site-specific methods to measure the forces behind the stock loss and socio-spatial transformations of the housing estates. His research performs densification capacity analysis against need and demand to map spatial potentials and uses the results to alter existing policies and find new ones for local provision.
