Digital Twin - Axiom or Fake News?

Cristina Savian, managing director and founder of BE-WISE, joins us for the next instalment of our 2018-19 keynote lecture series Constructs: digital innovation in the built environment.

The advancement of digital technologies and the adoption of BIM processes in the built environment has enabled the construction industry to catch up with aerospace and manufacturing - made possible through the creation of digital twins.

Digital twins aim to be the single source of truth in a built asset, serving the role as a live digital representation of a physical entity through the asset’s lifecycle, from conception to decommissioning. 

This lecture will explore the double face of digital twins. On one hand they offer an inspiring new frontier in their role as problem-solvers - enhancing asset performance and reducing risk. But some argue digital twins are yet to deliver tangible, measurable benefits. 

Cristina will analyse the central questions - are we ready for digital twins? And who stands to benefit? 

The lecture will begin at 18:30 and will be followed by a networking reception from 19:30. Please note that places for this event are limited and seating will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

About our speaker 

Cristina Savian is the founder and managing director of BE-WISE, a London based consultancy firm specialising in digital transformation and innovation in the construction industry. 

Cristina has over 20 years of experience in the civil engineering and technology industries, from small-scale parking scheme projects through to major events such as the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, where she was transport manager for the Greenwich Park venue. 

Cristina is a Chartered Land Surveyor and holds an MBA from the University of Cambridge, a joint degree in Transport and Business Management from Imperial College London and UCL and a first class degree in Environmental Economics.

Cristina is also an official ambassador for gender diversity and inclusion programmes and is currently working with the Wo+Men’s Leadership Centre at Judge Business School.

What is a digital twin?

A digital twin is a digital replica of a physical asset, connected by real-time data from sensors. The digital twin can be used for modelling, analysis, visualisation and simulation. 

In construction, digital twins mean continuous access to real-time models, allowing organisations to consistently track progress against schedules.
