01 Feb 2017 | 5pm | Engineering Exchange | Sarah Bell

In 2014 University College London launched the Engineering Exchange (EngEx). The purpose of the EngEx is to build stronger partnerships between engineering researchers and local communities. EngEx activities include providing pro bono engineering support for community groups, continuing professional development in community engagement for engineers, and initiating engineering research projects based on community needs and interests. In the first two years of the EngEx projects have been completed on topics include the demolition and refurbishment of social housing, designs for barges and lifting equipment to revive London's canals for freight transport, improving community air pollution monitoring, and developing technologies to assist with healthy aging. The EngEx has also supported research projects to develop new engineering design methods for bottom-up, community based infrastructure. This seminar will outline the main objectives and activities of the EngEx and discuss opportunities for engaging with CASA research and teaching.
