Stadtklang: Sonic Utopias

Stadtklang, the UCL Urban Laboratory music night, returns for a fifth volume on Sunday 20 March at Somerset House as part of the Venturing Beyond: Graffiti and the Everyday Utopias of the Street exhibition.
We will screen the afrofuturism documentaryThe Last Angel of History (John Akomfrah, 1996) from the Black Audio Film Collective, a video essay exploring informatics, technics, mutation, posthumanity and extraterrestriality.
After the film the writer and theorist Kodwo Eshun of The Otolith Group will be in conversation with Ayesha Hameed - co-editor of a new book 'Visual Culture as Time Travel' and lecturers in the Department of Visual Cultures, Goldsmiths, University of London - to discuss the film's themes and its critical role in the production of new Afro- and other futurisms. Kodwo will also select a playlist especially for Stadtklang offering his take on Afrofuturist sound.
Our regular Stadtklang DJs Louis Digital (Unspecified Enemies / Numbers) and Harrisment will warm up, and in a collaboration with Dalston based NTS Radio we will be broadcasting live sets from their station DJs inspired by cities, science-fiction and utopia.
With thanks to the Department of Visual Cultures, Goldsmiths, University of London, Tequilla Patron and London Speaker Hire for their in kind support.
