IEDE Students visit Engineering Consultancy Hoare Lea

24 May 2019

Students from IEDE's Engineering and Architectural Design MSc spent the day at engineering consultancy Hoare Lea last week as part of a MEP Industry Day.

Hoare Lea MEP Day

Our Visiting Professor of Environmental Design and Engineering, Ian Durbin organised the event along with Hoare Lea's London office.  Participants began the day with a site visit to Coal Drops Yard and the Gasholder Triplets in King's Cross and ended it with a series of workshops that introduced and explained Building Services and MEP to our current cohort of students.

The visit to Coal Drop's Yard and the Gas Triplets Project was co-ordinated by Alan Featherstone, Ross Macpherson and Amy Punter of Hoare Lea. The workshops were hosted by Ian Durbin and Andy Warrack, with Ross and Alan presenting on MEP and Amy on training and development.  Further workshops involved Hoare Lea's Specialists groups and the services they offer, and an introduction to the Intelligent Buildings Groups.  This was followed up by a recent graduate perspective from Henry Burrows and Zoe Dolan, two recent Engineering graduates who now work at Hoare Lea.

Following the workshops, a networking reception was held where students could ask recent graduates and Hoare Lea staff questions about Building Services and careers within the industry.

Hoare Lea will potentially take on a couple of students from the Engineering and Architectural Design MSc next summer in placements to create a pipeline of future talent.
