Abstract:
Engineers change the world, but not always for the better. In this lecture, to mark Sarah’s promotion to Professor of Environmental Engineering at UCL, she looks back to her earliest impressions of engineering as a career, and traces how things have changed. Engineering isn’t just building things. Sometimes, doing nothing is the best option. Small engineering might be better than big engineering. Good engineering takes time. Engineering is more effective if it’s done with people, rather than for them. Sarah has changed her mind about engineering, more than once. In this lecture, she hopes you might too.
