Alumni story: From Bahrain to global impact

Strategy Lead at Office of the Prime Minister, Bahrain and Smart Energy and the Built Environment MSc graduate Amna AlAseeri joined UCL seeking to explore how the built environment could contribute to sustainable living. Her academic journey began in architecture, but quickly evolved to address broader environmental and technological challenges.
It wasn’t just technical; it challenged you to rethink how we design and power the built environment.
The Energy Institute’s multidisciplinary environment enabled Amna to collaborate with architects, engineers, and policymakers from across the globe, a transformative experience that shaped her systems-thinking approach.
After graduating, Amna gained hands-on experience managing carbon monitoring and district energy systems in London before returning to Bahrain, where she now leads on national infrastructure and sustainability initiatives.
UCL gave me the bigger picture. It helped me understand energy systems, but also how strategy and infrastructure come together. That combination has shaped everything I’m doing now.
Her message to future students:
The energy transition needs more than engineers. It needs creatives, policymakers, and systems thinkers. Don’t be afraid to bring your unique background to the table.
