My research focuses on the roles that local innovation and international technology transfer have played in the development of the Thai biogas industry. Using various methods, I try to assess to what extend local engineering companies have accumulated the know-how necessary to produce biogas systems, to adapt foreign technology to local circumstances, and to continuously improve system performance. Such capabilities increase competitiveness and contribute to the localisation of industries for the production and development of technology. Thus, a detailed study of the Thai biogas sector offers insights about the diffusion of low-carbon energy technologies for decision makers at multiple levels, including firm managers, multilateral development organisations, and policy makers at the national level.
