UCL-Energy collaborates with industry on new cleantech financing mechanism for the shipping industry

UCL-Energy Lecturer in Energy and Transport, Tristan Smith, is collaborating with Carbon War Room and PricewaterhouseCoopers to lead a working group to develop a new cleantech financing mechansim specific for the shipping industry.

The working group which comprises of leading banks, technology companies, ship owners and charterers is hoping to revolutionise the take-up of cost-effective technology in the sector by developing a novel investment mechanism which removes some of the classical barriers associated with access to capital, apportionment of performance risk and access to information.

UCL Energy Institute is leading a key component of this work - the development of methods for the transparent quantification of performance benefits of different technologies.
