UCLFAA Environment and Sustainable Development MSc Scholarship
A scholarship for students from the United States to study Environment and Sustainable Development MSc, funding by the UCL Friends and Alumni Association (UCLFAA).

About the scholarship
The UCL Friends and Alumni Association (UCLFAA) funds several scholarships across UCL for master's students from the United States, including a scholarship for the Environment and Sustainable Development MSc at The Bartlett Development Planning Unit. The UCLFAA is a US-based non-profit dedicated to raising awareness of, and support for, the research, education, and innovation that takes place at UCL. The scholarship will support the recipients' fees and/or maintenance costs, at their discretion. The Bartlett Development Planning Unit conducts world-leading research and postgraduate teaching that helps to build the capacity of national governments, local authorities, NGOs, aid agencies and businesses working towards socially just and sustainable development in the global south.
Environment and Sustainable Development MSc
The Environment and Sustainable Development MSc equips participants with the knowledge, capacities and skills to carve pathways for long-term sustainability. It bridges theory and practice to address the world’s most pressing socio-environmental challenges in the context of climate change and uncertainty. The course takes an interdisciplinary approach, integrating feminist political ecology, environmental justice and systems thinking. It also includes a practical component exposing participants to real life situations through an overseas practice engagement and provides opportunities to interact with diverse stakeholders and leading thinkers in environmental development planning.

The equivalent of $71,000, available as tuition fees and maintenance costs.

1-year, full-time (starting September 2025)
Application deadline
2 May 2025. Shortlisted applications will be shared with UCLFAA, but the award of the scholarship remains at DPU's discretion.
Please note: This scholarship can only be awarded to applicants in receipt of an unconditional offer for the Environment and Sustainable Development MSc.
How to apply
Scholarship applicants will be assessed across three areas:
- Academic and/or professional excellence and background.
- Interest in key concerns covered by the ESD programme eg. environmental and climate justice, participatory democracy, feminist perspectives, inclusive sustainable development.
- Financial need.
