Sponsored by the British Council Higher Education Link, the DPU and the University of Brasilia examined the conceptual and methodological potential to apply Ecological-Economic Zoning (EEZ) to the planning of fast changing interfaces between rural and urban areas in the Brazilian Amazon region. EEZ is a tool adopted in Brazil in the mid-1980s to guide territorial and environmental planning, which focused primarily on pristine nature, ignoring the role that cities play in shaping decisions over larger regions.
