HUDCO is a technical and financial institution working in the area of human settlements that, in 1970 became a fully owned Government of India Enterprise, with the mandate to improve the housing conditions of the low-income groups (LIG) and the economically weaker sections (EWS) of society, by providing long-term finance for house construction and related projects.
HUDCO's Corporate Plan explicitly states that "HUDCO aims to predominantly cater to the needs of economically weaker sections and low income groups and socially disadvantaged through various instruments and innovations and to serve the needs of housing and infrastructure in urban and rural areas." It is this social mandate that distinguishes HUDCO from other housing loan institutions.
