DPU staff participate in the 7th World Urban Forum

8 April 2014

A large delegation of DPU staff are currently actively participating in the 7th World Urban Forum in Medellin, Colombia.

The Forum, which is held in a different city every two years, runs from 5-11 April 2014. It is convened by UN-Habitat and widely recognised as the preeminent international event focusing on urban issues. As well as a strong representation from the academic community the Forum welcomes a wide range of participants from policymakers and international agencies to NGOs, community groups, activists and private organisations joining in discussion about the future of cities. The guiding theme of the 2014 edition is 'Urban Equity in Development - Cities for Life', a title that resonates loudly with the research and teaching of the DPU. You can read more about the Forum on the WUF7 website.

This year the DPU has a strong presence in Medellin, and our staff are participating in a number of activities and delivering several sessions across the week. For information about events, times and venues, view our WUF events page online.

We're also proud to be holding our regular WUF Alumni dinner with former students, staff and friends of the DPU. Throughout the event we'll be present at Stand 41 in the exhibition, so please do stop by to speak with us and find out more about the type of work that we do.

Medellin is a city with which the unit has strong recent ties due to a 2 year research programme led by our Director, Prof Julio D. Davila, which led to a book, 'Urban mobility and poverty: Lessons from Medellín and Soacha, Colombia', and the DPU summerLab programme which saw one workshop take place in Medellin last summer.
