This year’s World Habitat Day is themed Housing for All: A Better “Urban” Future, a theme that echoes the UN SDGs and New Urban Agenda to Leave No One Behind. Yet, COVID-19 is showing us that many are being left behind. While COVID-19 is primarily referred to as a health and economic emergency, the right to housing and housing related services play a critical role in how we are able to respond to the pandemic collectively. 

Before forging ahead, we are taking a moment to look back and reflect on Housing Rights and where we have come from. In looking forward, we are engaging with the current moment to move beyond diagnosis and take stock of how various actors are defending and producing housing rights in the light of COVID-19. 

The main aim is to bring together various communities of practice converging in the defence and production of the ‘right to housing’ as the ‘right to life’, and to move towards a collective debate on how our responses are changing / need to change in the current situation.

The event is co-hosted by the Development Planning Unit (DPU, the Habitat International Coalition (HIC), the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) and United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG).

Derecho a la vivienda: Mirando al pasado, mirando al futuro, el  9 de octubre de 2020 - 14.00-16.00 BST [comprueba aquí tu hora local]  

El lema del Día Mundial del Hábitat de este año será Vivienda para todos-as: un futuro “urbano” mejor, un tema que se hace eco de los ODS de las Naciones Unidas y de la Nueva Agenda Urbana para no dejar a nadie atrás.  Si bien se hace referencia al COVID-19 como una emergencia sanitaria y económica, el derecho a la vivienda y a los servicios relacionados con la vivienda desempeña un papel fundamental en la forma en que podemos responder, tanto individual como colectivamente, a la pandemia.

Antes de seguir adelante, queremos pararnos un momento para mirar atrás y reflexionar sobre el derecho a la vivienda y nuestros orígenes. Al mirar hacia el futuro, nos comprometemos con el momento actual para ir más allá del diagnóstico y tomar conciencia de cómo los-as diferentes actores defienden y generan el derecho a la vivienda frente al COVID-19. 

El principal objetivo de este encuentro es reunir a las diferentes comunidades de práctica que coinciden en la defensa y producción del “derecho a la vivienda” como “derecho a la vida”, y avanzar hacia un debate colectivo sobre cómo nuestras respuestas están cambiando / deben cambiar en la situación actual.

El evento está conjuntamente organizado por el Development Planning Unit (DPU), Habitat International Coalition (HIC), el International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) y Ciudades y Gobiernos Locales Unidos (CGLU).

Droit au logement : Regard (réflexion) sur le passé, regard (réflexion) sur l'avenir 9 octobre 2020 - 14.00-16.00 BST [révisez ici votre heure locale].    

Cette année, la Journée mondiale de l'habitat aura comme slogan Logement pour tous: un meilleur avenir « urbain », un thème qui fait écho aux ODD des Nations unies et au Nouveau programme pour les villes afin de n’oublier personne. Pourtant, le COVID-19 nous prouve que beaucoup sont laissé-e-s pour compte. Alors que COVID-19 est principalement considéré comme une urgence sanitaire et économique, le droit au logement et aux services liés au logement jouent un rôle essentiel dans la manière dont nous sommes capables de répondre collectivement à la pandémie.

Avant d'avancer, prenons un moment pour nous tourner vers le passé et réfléchir au droit au logement ainsi qu’à nos origines. En nous tournant vers l'avenir, nous nous engageons dans le moment présent pour aller au-delà du diagnostic et prendre conscience de la manière dont les différent-e-s acteurs et actrices défendent et génèrent le droit au logement à la lumière du COVID-19. 

L'objectif principal est de rassembler les différentes communautés de pratique qui convergent dans la défense et la production du « droit au logement » en tant que « droit à la vie », et de progresser vers un débat collectif sur la façon dont nos réponses changent / doivent changer dans la situation actuelle.
