MBA Student Spotlight: Nicola Masters
As Associate Director at Expedition Engineering, Nicola knew that the Major Infrastructure Delivery MBA would help to update her knowledge and develop her career, following a break. Read more below.
Why did you choose to study the Major Infrastructure Delivery MBA?
Following a significant career break, I wanted to update my current knowledge across a breadth of major infrastructure delivery, that would provide rigour and theoretical backing to my work, as well as develop my network within the sector. The flexibility of the Major Delivery Infrastructure MBA and the approach of part-time learning suited my working pattern, and having spoken to individuals from the current cohort, I was convinced that this MBA would be valuable at this stage in my career.
What has been your experience of the teaching and level of support on this course?
It has been intense but inspiring for me. The quality and breadth of teaching and speakers is outstanding. The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction is world leading and can attract the very best academic research and leaders within infrastructure. The class size encourages dialogue with speakers, resulting in open and engaging conversations to really explore the challenges of major infrastructure.
Throughout the MBA course, both the content and speakers have been highly relevant to my work, as I had anticipated, given the strong industry backing and their input into shaping the syllabus.
What aspects of your MBA studies have you enjoyed most?
Without doubt, the taught weeks and actual classes at UCL. My cohort have been incredible. Drawn from around the globe and across sectors, they have been curious, supportive and generous in sharing insights and experiences. This is a professional community for life.
Have you been able to apply the skills and knowledge you’ve learned on the course to your current role?
Throughout the MBA course, both the content and speakers have been highly relevant to my work, as I had anticipated, given the strong industry backing and their input into shaping the syllabus. Learning from the experience of other students across a wide range of major projects, has added depth and breadth to my studies, and my professional network has continued to grow, with many overlaps on projects already underway.
How do you foresee the Major Infrastructure Delivery MBA helping you as you move forward in your career?
Already I have experienced a difference in my confidence, from my learning, but also from the engagement with visionary leaders within major projects.
What advice would you give to those thinking about studying the Major Infrastructure Delivery MBA at The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction?
The Bartlett is ranked #1 in the world for Architecture and Built Environment Studies (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026), so they know how to do this well.
