School Research Theme: UCL Environment: School of Construction and Project Management

Success in Project Management can be more based on human factors than on tools and techniques and trust has become prominent in management theory and practice in recent years, particularly in construction.
In my research, theory is critically reviewed to present first the holistic picture about trust research with comments about bounded rationality and putting the research in context: Cognitive and calculative in nature vs socially constructed (intuitive, dynamic and based on relationships) as the case in Construction Project Management.
Following a four‐case qualitative and quantitative research methodology (mixed-methods), my investigation explores the dynamics of trust elements (variables) in construction projects in Spain showing which are relevant, how they link, the extent to which they could be linked and the obstacles to linkage, and finally which elements/variables can be managed.
The output is a new model developed from the literature review and empirical work (interviews and questionnaires during the course of four construction projects in Spain).
More meta-perceptions in more projects would be another step following the conclusions of the investigation and furthermore in more countries. And the interplay between emotional intelligence and trust in construction project management would be another line to study.
