Our history

When the twin disciplines of construction management and construction economics came into being, this school was there. In fact, much of it happened right here. Read more about our history. 

Our research

We’re part of The Bartlett, the global faculty of the built environment in the heart of London. On our doorstep is all of UCL’s intellectual power in a vast range of fields, and one of the most fascinating, diverse cities on Earth.

According to REF 2021, The Bartlett is where the UK’s most ‘World Leading’ and ‘Internationally Excellent’ built environment research is undertaken. 91% of our research has been deemed ‘World Leading’ and ‘Internationally Excellent’ and The Bartlett is number one for Research Power in the built environment.

As projects grow in size and scope, the study of how to manage and finance them grows in relevance. We deal with skills that are transferable and honed for modern, project-based organisations.

Our experience in these disciplines reaches back 40 years, to when we established our original degree programme. Today, in this field, our team of academics is one of the most accomplished to be found; their research consistently informs teaching, here and elsewhere, and received a 4* rating in the last Research Assessment Exercise.
