The Bartlett is a global faculty of the built environment. Our work is all about human spaces, understanding and influencing how and why they are structured in locations worldwide.

This includes physical structures like houses, buildings, energy, and cities, as well as invisible governing structures like political and legal systems, financial and economic frameworks, value creation and distribution, and social and cultural norms.

Race is fundamental to our understanding of these structures and the spatial injustices they produce. Launched in 2020, the Race and Spatial Justice Recruitment Focus welcomes diverse thinkers, researchers, and teachers from across the world to come and work with us.

We are hiring scholars whose work focuses on any areas related to race, spatial justice and the built environment. This may lie within critical race studies, Black feminisms, post colonialism, Indigenous studies, coloniality, decoloniality, or other disciplinary traditions.

At The Bartlett, we are committed to fostering scholarship on race and spatial justice, articulating the effects of race on spaces, and taking steps to undo the harm of racism through our educational offering, research activity, and fair representation in our staff and student community.

The Race and Spatial Justice Recruitment Focus is essential to enable us to meet these commitments. Our mission is to create a world-leading hub of scholarship and practice that actively addresses the interrelations of race, space, and the built environment.
