William Markiewicz

Thesis Title: Assessing the Sustainability of Digital Twins

Primary Supervisor: Duncan Wilson

Second Supervisor: Cliff Elwell (Energy Institute)

Funding Source: EPSRC and Arup

Start Date: 27/09/2021

Biography
William studied Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London, graduating in 2014. His career before joining CASA has been in the aerospace industry, where he developed digital twins of factories.

Research Summary
He is currently researching digital twins of buildings, and how they can be used to reduce a building’s running costs and carbon emissions. This research will explore the hidden value of “data as a material” in new buildings at Arup and UCL to improve efficiency and demand flexibility. This is an investigation into the costs and benefits of digital twins. This includes the costs of processing data, environmental and social benefits and identifying instances where no benefits exist.

Research Themes
Digital Twin, Built Environment, Resource footprint
