Conceptualising Participatory in Digital Planning

First and second supervisors

Abstract

Nurul’s research interests centre on an in-depth evaluation of a loop involving knowledge and information in the digital era, particularly in relation to urban planning. She aims to address the situation in spatial planning that integrates digital technologies by defining the types of ecosystems to be developed and identifying who is accountable for establishing effective digital spatial planning. The primary objective of this study is to grasp how knowledge is formed in order to formulate a framework for enhancing the interaction between theory and practice in the future for better smart communities. Using a longitudinal approach, it will investigate the development and implementation of digital participatory platforms, consulting with academics, industry experts, and the broader community. By examining expert input and evaluating various approaches, the research seeks to determine which methods contribute most to effective digital spatial planning, comparing different modes of participatory platforms and their influence on the quality and quantity of citizen input. Ultimately, the research aims to uncover new opportunities for advancing digital spatial planning that involve all city stakeholders.
