Dr Wei Yang Awarded OBE in New Year Honours 2025

Dr Wei Yang is Honorary Professor at the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA). She was recognised in the New Year Honours 2025 for services to the town planning industry.

Congratulations to Dr Wei Yang, Honorary Professor at CASA, who has been awarded an OBE in this year’s New Year Honours. Dr Yang is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Digital Task Force for Planning and Chair of the Construction Industry Council.

A world-renowned town planner and urban designer, she has extensive experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams and implementing large-scale regeneration and low-carbon master planning projects in the UK and across the world. 

She is one of seven members of the UCL community who were recognised in the New Year Honours this year.

Commenting on the award, Dr Yang said:

It is my great privilege to have been honoured with an OBE as a planner. I can't think of any profession that suits me better. A heartfelt thank you to my family, friends and colleagues who have supported me throughout the years.”

Dr Yang was conferred as an Honorary Professor at CASA in 2022. She has co-authored several publications with Professor Michael Batty CBE FRS FBA, including an article on spatial planning in The Bartlett Review and a report titled 'A Digital Future for Planning: Spatial Planning Reimagined', outlining a blueprint for the digital transformation of spatial planning and the sector’s future.
