Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, UCL has made the decision to cancel all face-to-face activity until the end of September 2020. Applicants, participants and teachers will be contacted as soon as possible

Each year UCL run a number of Residential Summer Schools for Year 12 students, offering a taste of university life and what it is like to study at degree level.

Introduction

This Summer School is a five-day course for Year 12 students from UK state schools who are interested in architecture. There is no fee for this course and students who are eligible to attend will receive free meals, activities and residential accommodation in UCL’s student halls. A place at the Summer School also includes the cost of travel to and from the course, plus any travel you may take throughout the week on study trips within London.

About

Over the course of five days, students will be introduced to various ways of thinking about architecture and the city on a small scale. Through field trips and studio sessions, they will learn about observing, sketching designing and making.

Responding to this year’s theme ‘City for Animals’, students will spend a day at London Zoo where they will study the living patterns and architectures of animals. They will then record their studies at The Bartlett School of Architecture through various media including drawings, sketches and photography.

A second field trip to the Victoria and Albert Museum will form further inspiration for design work and by the end of the Summer School, students will have produced a series of objects and documents that are representative of their experience and imagination.

How to apply

Applications are now open for 2020 and will close on 03 March

To apply, please complete an application form. Part of this form will ask for information about your parent or guardian, so make sure they are around when you complete it.

A teacher will be required to give an academic reference for your application. Please select a teacher who knows you and your academic record, and make sure to ask their permission before providing their email address in your application form. Applications without a teacher reference will not be considered.
