Speculative and Performative Design

The ActiveHouse: Active Thermally Insulated Façades

Our speculative design research is based on inspirational ideas that aim to broaden the knowledge base of architecture and open new interdisciplinary questions about the nature of space and design.

Through studying architecture’s intersection with fine art, criticism, philosophy, literature, subjectivity, visual culture and representation, we have developed radically innovative designs and writing practices. Part of our research addresses the practice and theorisation of temporal and interactive notions of space for architecture and the city. Another explores the politics of performance as an urban intervention.

Staff members have exhibited speculative and performative works in venues such as the Venice Architecture Biennale, Storefront for Art and Architecture, Nevada Museum of Art, Danish Architecture Centre, Centre Pompidou, Royal Academy and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
