Bartlett Beijing Workshop 2019

adDRESSING DESIGN REINVENTION: Architecture and Fashion is a pop-up workshop run by The Bartlett in China from 12 – 23 August 2019.

About

Students from The Bartlett and Beijing will work with tutors to design and prototype a series of experimental devices to both dress the architecture and the body. The aim of these wearable layers is to improve eciency from a programmatic and comfort point of view and to design and manufacture them in an environmentally aware manner. By the end of the workshop, participants will have created a new design protocol and language, to empower and be empowered by Planet Earth.

Participants
The workshop is looking for students, practitioners and academics of architecture, industrial design, fashion and related disciplines who want to explore experimental ideas and have a hyper-creative, collective design experience.

Outcomes
During the workshop the tutors will train participants in the following skills: drawing; story-boarding; phone video filming; photography; model making; prototyping; fashion pattern making; pattern cutting; sewing; crocheting; laser cutting; CNC cutting; timber joinery; testing and validating designs through objective design analysis.

Cost
The cost of the workshop is 1450 GBP or equivalent CNY at the time of exchange rate.

Carlos Jimenez Cenamor

Carlos has directed Architecture MArch Unit 22 together with Izaskun Chinchilla since 2010 and has coordinated The Bartlett Summer School since 2013. He works as a designer and practising architect, having undertaken commissions in cinema production, industrial design, fashion design and digital fabrication. 

He co-directed the Construction Site Supervision of the Castillo de Garcimuñoz Media-Library from 2009 to 2011, together with Izaskun. He has been teaching workshops and giving lectures since 2005 in the United Kingdom, Spain, Colombia, Russia, Lebanon and Thailand, among others. In 2011, Carlos created the brand DelAmorYlaBelleza which develops animations, scenography, fashion and design projects.
