Research summary
My current research is focussed on inner London and specifically Hoxton. I am using this neighbourhood to explore the possibility of building on small publicly owned sites to provide additional affordable and social housing. It is anticipated that there will be a role for potential owners and tenants in the provision of such housing as builders.
Teaching summary
My teaching covers several aspects of architecture. Firstly it focusses on the use of digital technology in the process of making buildings. This extends from a simple digitally produced two dimensional drawing to the production of digital information for making component parts of buildings and further to site construction activity. My second focus is on politics and its impact on architecture and the requirements for students to understand what is needed to be practitioners.

Biography
I have been teaching at the Bartlett School of Architecture since 1996. During that period I have worked for various architectural practices and since 2002 run my own small office. I consider the relationship between my design work and teaching to be symbiotic. I have recently completed a project designed and almost entirely constructed by myself with two others. This process has led to an interest in users participation in building and the role of the constructor who is not necessarily a tradesperson. I am now engaged in research to understand how principles of user led construction can help address the current housing shortage in London. In 2021 I completed a PhD looking at how small local authrity owned sites in Hoxton can be utilised for housing.
