Nikolaus Pevsner writing in the Architectural Review

Dr Anne Hultzsch has been awarded a Library Grant at the Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles, to consult the Nikolaus Pevsner Papers this summer.

This research is part of her project 'Date your District, 1942: Modern Visual Re-education and the Perception of Victorian Architecture in the Architectural Review' which is funded by an RIBA Research Trust Award. It explores how the eminent architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner - together with James M. Richards, Hubert de Cronin Hastings and others - attempted to visually 'educate' readers in the appreciation of both Modern as well as, and particularly, Victorian architecture.

Anne is both a graduate of the PhD Architectural History & Theory programme and a Teaching Fellow at the Bartlett.
