Archio, the practice of Bartlett School of Architecture alum Kyle Buchanan, has been shortlisted for this year's BD Young Architect of the Year Award (YAYA). The award recognises the most promising new architectural practice in the European Union, and is open to fully qualified architects who have been practicing for 12 years or less.

Founded in 2013, the London and Cheltenham-based practice co-directed by Kyle Buchanan and Mellis Haward, works on a wide range of projects with a particular emphasis on housing and public buildings.

"We are currently working on several housing projects, two hotels, and a large community and sports centre. We enjoy the intricacies of these types of project, and the need to iterate proposals and ideas to arrive at design solutions. We aim to work with clients who enjoy this process as much as we do", says Buchanan, who graduated from the MArch Architecture Part II at The Bartlett in 2008 and taught on the School's MArch Unit 11 from 2011-2015.

The awards will be hosted by writer and broadcaster Stephen Fry at London's ExCel Centre on 9 March. Shortlisted schemes will be displayed at the Discover zone at Ecobuild which is at ExCel from 8 – 10 March.
