The Architect’s Journal announced on 3 June 2020 that the school was voted best in the UK by a “substantial margin”. The announcement marks the 17th year in a row that The Bartlett has won this prestigious title, with Managing Editor Will Hurst congratulating the school on “this very notable achievement.”

The rankings were decided by polling the AJ100’s largest architectural practices.

This news comes after The Bartlett was named the best place to study architecture in the UK by QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020.

This offers a positive boost to all our staff and students. It is good to know that others recognise the value and quality of our architectural education.

- Professor Christoph Lindner, Dean of The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment.

To be the best at anything is good; to be the best repeatedly reflects real excellence; but to be the best for the 17th consecutive year is truly exceptional. I am delighted for all the staff and students of The Bartlett School of Architecture that their hard work and innovative approach have been fully recognised again by this award. Many congratulations to everyone in the school – this is so well deserved and thank you for your continued excellence.

- Professor Michael Arthur, UCL President and Provost

School Directors' Statement

"An architecture school is a hub in a vast ecology of relationships that span multiple generations, mindsets, trajectories and cultures. On this basis, we are deeply aware that this distinguished accolade infers responsibility upon us to acknowledge, support and influence change.

"In the context of the many challenges that affect aspiring architects, recent graduates, and experienced practitioners alike, we acknowledge that the school must do more to transform itself and the field of architecture as inspiring and talented environments that are equitable, diverse and inclusive."

- Barbara Campbell-Lange (Acting Director), Bob Sheil (Director)
