Histories and Theories of Architecture

Penelope Haralambidou, City of Ladies, 2020–22

A clear understanding of past architecture and its context is essential to build for the future.
The Bartlett School of Architecture pursues multiple histories and theories with the aim of creating multidimensional debate and mutual understanding between cultures.

Our history and theory research addresses historical, theoretical, and critical issues in architecture that impact design, technology, pedagogy and professional practice. A dynamic community reflects the breadth of disciplines within the school, made up of designers, historians, theoreticians, technologists, critics, filmmakers, activists and artists, and conducts a similarly wide range of work, from scholarly papers to authored and edited books, creative writing, collective practice, installations and exhibitions.
