About

Join architects and urban designers Anna Gasco and Kees Christiaanse for the launch of their latest book, with Naomi Hanakata, ‘The Grand Projet’.

Bartlett alumna Anna Gasco and architect Kees Christiaanse present comparative research from the book, on the making and impact of urban megaprojects undertaken at the multidisciplinary ETH Future Cities Laboratory over the past four years. The work draws from the analysis of eight urban megaproject case studies in Asia, Europe and from the perspectives of a broad range of stakeholders.

Following their presentation there will be opportunities for questions and a drinks reception.

About the book

The Grand Projet, Understanding the Making and Impact of Urban Megaprojects focusses on the spatial practices of carefully laid-out urban developments, referred to as Grand Projet in the research. It follows eight unique case studies: Marunouchi Tokyo, Lujiazui Shanghai, West Kowloon Hong Kong, Marina Bay Singapore, HafenCity Hamburg, La Défense Paris, 22@ Barcelona and King’s Cross London.

The research contributes to a better understanding of urban megaprojects in relation to their urban environments, including the contemporary challenges and opportunities of such developments, given their central and increasing roles in shaping our cities.

The Grand Projet, Understanding the Making and Impact of Urban Megaprojects, by Anna Gasco, Kees Christiaanse and Naomi Hanakata is now available to buy online.
