B-media – Audio Visual

As a dynamic resource, it also provides audiovisual equipment and expertise for physical exhibitions and events. For current students and staff, detailed service information is available at the B-media SharePoint site (UCL login required). 

Equipment store

A substantial inventory of equipment is available to students across all sites of The Bartlett School of Architecture. Specialist staff are able to advise on suitable equipment for project needs, to explain principles of usage, and to issue short term loans. In general, this equipment is managed using an online catalogue to enable visibility of inventory across sites. 

Categories include:

• Photography (cameras, lights, backdrops)
• Videography (cameras, gimbals, dollies)
• Audio (microphones, speakers, interfaces, synths, mixers)
• XR (virtual reality and augmented reality headsets)
• Interactive (projectors, sensors, software)
• Computing (laptops, tablets, storage)
   

Additional equipment for exhibitions and events includes:

• PA systems
• Display screens
• Lighting

While this equipment is generally not available for loan, it is installed periodically to benefit all students and event attendees.

Bookable studio spaces

B-media manages a suite of bookable spaces for the development and documentation of projects. They share common ground rules and protocols to support advanced usage such as XR, drones and robotics.

Black Box – Here East

A space for performance and documentation, the Black Box contains professional-level broadcasting equipment, lighting and audio. It has hosted theatrical performances, panel discussions, dance-offs and more.

BodyLab – Here East

Specialising in immersive technologies and physical interaction, the BodyLab contains a motion capture rig, gaming PCs and high-end XR headsets. See the Spatial Computing section for more details.

Photo Studio – 22 Gordon Street

Used for the documentation of student models and installations, this space is specifically equipped for photography and photogrammetry with studio lighting, photographic backdrops and positioning equipment.
