The word Shalom

The word Shalom is a very important word. It has several meanings: it is a greeting word (like Hello, but also Goodbye), it means peace and health and stems from the root S.L.M. that means complete or perfect.

In the funeral of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995, the president of the USA Bill Clinton coined the phrase "Shalom, Chaver" which means "Goodbye, friend". Clinton referred to both meanings of the word – farewell and peace, pointing to Mr. Rabin's major contribution to the peace process in the Middle East.
