So, you can already read some Danish. Now we come to the hard bit - understanding spoken Danish. There are many jokes about how Danish sounds - not least made by our Scandinavian neighbours. When you first listen to a Dane speak you will notice that it can be difficult to hear when one word ends and another begins. Individual vowels are not as clear as in the other Scandinavian languages and Danes have a tendency to speak fast.
