Dr Linda Thomson

Linda is a Cognitive Psychologist specialising in learning and memory. She has been Senior Postdoctoral Research Lead on projects totalling over two million pounds including ‘Community COVID’; ‘Give: Volunteering for Wellbeing’; ‘Museums on Prescription’; ‘UCL Museum Wellbeing Measures’; ‘Forced Displacement and Cultural Interventions’; ‘Heritage in Hospitals’; and currently, ‘Mobilizing Cultural and Natural Community Assets to Combat Health Disparities’ (UKRI-AHRC). She received a Museums and Heritage Award for ‘Educational Initiative’ and two Royal Society of Public Health awards: Health & Wellbeing for ‘Arts & Health’ and Special Commendation for ‘Sustainable Development’. Linda is lead author of articles spanning ageing, art therapy, arts and health, medicine, museums and public health, and sits on the editorial board for Arts & Health Journal as Statistical Consultant. Her recent keynotes were for ‘Museum Dialogues’, New Delhi and ‘Cultural and Creative Industries Engaging with Wellbeing’, Riga.

Linda is Critical Friend to: ‘The Wild Mind Project’ supporting mental health in young people through creative nature-focused interventions; and ‘Conservation for Wellbeing’ engaging mental health service-users in creative heritage and archive activities. Prior to her psychology career, Linda was a Designer for BBC Television and, in addition to her PhD (London) and BSc (1st Class Hons) in Psychology, holds an MA from the Royal College of Art. She also has a PGCE (post-compulsory) from the UCL Institute of Education. Specific interests include the pedagogic value of object-based learning and multi-sensory engagement, and the role of creativity and co-productive processes in enhancing health and wellbeing, and addressing health inequities.
