As a graduate of the BA Creative Arts and Humanities programme, you will develop the following skills and attributes to prepare you for a wide range of life and career choices:

  • A critical understanding of the complex, diverse and often tangled stories of the contemporary world, including who gets to tell those stories and why.
  • The ability to develop narratives clearly and innovatively in a range of creative forms, combined with an ability to combine, translate, and switch between forms of creative practice.
  • The ability to transfer narrative and creative problem-solving skills into the workplace, understanding and demonstrating how they can be of value in economic, cultural, and social contexts.
  • Critical understanding and practice of creativity and collaboration in the workplace, including current issues and future trends, and issues around diversity and inclusion
  • Experience of creative production across a range of creative formats, including modes of writing, performing, podcast and audio production, and film.
  • Skills in working collaboratively with and for others to explore questions, address issues, and produce a wide range of outputs.

You will also be well placed to go on to postgraduate study, whether more specialised programmes in particular forms of creative practice (Masters in Creative Writing or Drama, for example) or more vocational programmes (Masters in Arts and Cultural Management, Masters in Journalism, for example), but also more traditional masters programmes in the Humanities.

We believe that graduates of the BA Creative Arts and Humanities will be valued anywhere where creativity harnessed to critical insights is valued, where different models of collaboration can yield stronger outputs, and where narrative insights are essential to communicating new ideas and core purposes.

The degree is being designed to include a focus on engagement (with audiences, communities, organisations, professionals, and employers), and many of the compulsory modules will involve practitioners and creative organisations to enhance teaching through, for example, guest lectures, review panels for student work, consultancy projects, etc.
