Undergraduate FAQs
Frequently asked questions from our offer holders sessions.
UCL Arts & Humanities offers a diverse range of undergraduate degrees.
Our offer holders were recently invited to sessions where they could learn more about studying with us and ask questions directly to our current students.
Below are some of the most frequently asked questions from our offer holders sessions.
Where do we find out more about societies and clubs at UCL?
Student’s Union UCL is home to more than 360 Clubs and Societies, countless volunteering opportunities, part-time jobs that fit around your studies, events and great places to eat and drink.
You can explore the clubs and societies on offer, online.
How do I apply for accommodation at UCL?
UCL Accommodation’s website outlines the eligibility criteria, availability and process for applying for UCL accommodation.
They also have a step-by-step guide taking you through the process.
Where will I live after the first year?
At UCL, most students tend to move into private rental accommodation with friends after their first year. We recommend that you look into alternative accommodation options to secure housing as early as possible.
The Students' Union UCL also offers at Flatmate Finder tool to help you find other UCL students to live with, or spare rooms listed by other UCL students.
How does Study Abroad work?
This will vary depending on your degree.
Some of our degrees have a year of Study Abroad built into their structure. Others will not and this will have to be applied for separately.
Specific opportunities for UCL Arts & Humanities students can be found online. Or you can learn more by getting in touch with the Study Abroad Team.
When does term start in 2025?
Your offer letter will confirm your start date.
However, the first day of term will be Monday 22 September 2025.
When and how do I select my modules?
New students starting in September 2025 who are pre-enrolled or fully enrolled will be invited to select from Monday 8 September 2025 and must select by Friday 10 October 2025.
Communications regarding module selection will come via email.
I need to apply for a student visa to study in the UK. When will I receive my Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS)?
You will be invited from June 2025 to check your details on Portico (the UCL applicant portal), which will be used to generate your CAS. Your CAS will only be issued to you once your offer status has been updated to Unconditional Firm and your qualifications have been verified.
UCL reminds all international offer holders that we are unable to expedite CAS numbers.
UCL strongly recommends offer holders not to book visa appointments or flights until they have received their CAS number.
Is there any academic work I should do before joining UCL?
The vast majority of our degrees do not require any work to be completed over the summer prior to joining UCL. Some departments may send suggested reading lists via email, to provide you with areas to explore prior to your studies.
Any reading or work would be sent via email in advance of you joining UCL.
What happens if I narrowly miss the conditions of my offer?
The only way to guarantee your place at UCL is to meet the conditions of your offer in full.
On occasion, we may be able to consider candidates who have narrowly missed the conditions of their offer.
We will not be able to give you a decision either way at this time. In this situation, your application may remain on hold until A Level results day in August, at which stage, UCL Admissions will be able to give you a final decision via UCAS Track.
Can I defer my entry to UCL?
UCL Admissions tries to facilitate deferral requests wherever possible. Please contact us with a written request through the contact form including the following details:
- your full name
- the degree you applied for
- a brief outline of the reasons for your deferral request
Requests for most programmes are approved if received by 1 October 2025.
What if I want to change my degree after enrolment?
Any changes to a student’s degree are handled internally between both the department where you have been admitted and the department you wish to transfer to.
Changes are not always possible.
Contact your degree tutor to discuss the option of an internal transfer. Please see the Change your Programme or Route webpage for further guidance.
UCL does not consider applications from currently enrolled students via UCAS.
I have further questions about my specific degree
If you have a specific question about your degree, we suggest that you get in touch with the department to which you have applied.
Relevant contact details can be found at the bottom of the prospectus page for the degree you applied to.
