Level 1 is for people with no previous knowledge of the language or minimal knowledge such as some greetings, the alphabet. The course includes all four skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. It runs over 3 terms.
The course will cover the following:
Topics: the alphabet and pronunciation, greetings, my family, professions and occupation; the place I come from, feelings and likes / dislikes, food, shopping, ordering food in a restaurant; directions, countries and regions of the world, nationalities and languages, Ukraine: map and tourists’ attractions, average Ukrainian / Briton, travelling, hobbies, sports, days of the week, seasons, some aspects of Ukrainian culture.
Functions: meeting other people and introducing oneself, describing your family, home and place where you come from, describing one’s feelings and likes / dislikes, understanding numbers (prices, telephone numbers), shopping, ordering food in a restaurant, describing a simple recipe, understanding directions, talking about daily routine, favourite activities.
Grammar: nouns, gender and cases, verbs in present tense, future tense and past tense, adjectives, numerals, personal pronouns and possessive pronouns, simple adverbs, simple prepositions and conjunctions.

Level 2 Ukrainian is for the people who have recently completed the beginners course or who already have the basic knowledge of the language and its grammar. The course aims at giving students further understanding of grammar, developing broader vocabulary and four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Topics: home, renting / letting property, hotels, unusual buildings; months, dates; telling the time; day routine; transport and travelling; weather; body parts; describing people’s look and character; attending a doctor, visiting a pharmacy; clothes and footwear, shopping; expressing opinions; interesting facts about Ukraine; Ukrainian feasts and traditions; writing emails and diary.
Skills: Understanding the main points of clear standard speech on familiar and regularly encountered matters, as well as the main points of some TV/video/audio mass media programmes and sources on familiar topics when delivery is slow and clear. Understanding simple texts containing mainly everyday language, descriptions of events, wishes and feeling in personal letters/messages. Dealing with most travel and everyday life situations, entering and keeping up conversations on familiar topics. Expressing opinions and giving reasons. Narrating a simple short story. Writing simple texts on familiar topics and personal letters/messages.
Grammar: Nouns, pronouns and adjective cases use, cardinal and ordinal numbers, prepositions and the cases they take, comparative of adjectives and adverbs, superlative, verb aspect and forms of the past, present and future tense, verbs of motion (prefixed and non-prefixed).

Course description: This course is for people who completed the Lower Intermediate course or who have sound knowledge of the language acquired through visits to the country or through self-study. The course aims at developing four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Topics: work, profession, daily life, life style, leisure, shopping, food and eating habits, health, life in cities and in countryside, life standards, music, books and reading, happiness, celebrations, festivals, facts from Ukrainian history, biography, changes in life.
Skills: General discussion; expressing views, wishes, desires, hopes, expectations; expressing opinions, agreeing and disagreeing; making suggestions and recommendations; topic presentation; narration; listening comprehension; role-plays; writing short essays.

Course description: Level 4 is for those who have successfully completed Ukrainian Upper Intermediate or a similar course and are familiar with main grammar structures: declension of nouns and adjectives (both singular and plural) in all cases, imperfective and perfective aspects of verbs, reflexive verbs, verbs of motion, present, past and future tenses. Please note that this course does not require impeccable or extensive knowledge of these structures but students should be familiar with all of them. The course runs over three ten-week terms and each session is two hours long. The course includes all four skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. Linguistic and cultural knowledge is reinforced and broaden by authentic materials, texts and videos. On completion of the course, students can converse reasonably fluently with native speakers and retrieve information from a wide range of authentic materials. The course will cover the following:

The course runs over three ten-week terms and each session is two hours long.
