Heritage Language Courses for 2026-27: Albanian, Bulgarian & Romanian

We are pleased to be expanding our heritage language course provision from October 2026, with new courses in Bulgarian and Romanian offered alongside our existing Albanian course.

These courses are designed for students who have a family, cultural or community connection to the language and would like to develop their confidence, accuracy and range.

New students

Beginners (starting in October)

To apply:

• Submit the Course Application Form
• If space is available, you will be invited to pay to confirm your place.

No assessment is required.

Beginners courses start in the Autumn Term only.

Non-beginners (all terms)

To apply:

• Submit the Course Application Form
• Complete the Student Assessment Form and email it to eveningcourses@ucl.ac.uk
• A tutor will contact you to assess your level and recommend the best course for you
• If a suitable place is available, you will be invited to pay to confirm your place

Please apply early to allow time for assessment before the course begins.

Russian courses (Intermediate and Advanced only)

In addition to the above, students applying for places on the Lower Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, Lower Advanced and Advanced Russian courses should also:

• Complete the short multiple-choice placement test (self-marked)
• Include the score on your Student Assessment Form

Returning students

If you have recently completed a SSEES Evening Course:

• Please email eveningcourses@ucl.ac.uk to confirm that you wish to re-enrol
• We will confirm availability and send you a validation code
• Use this code to complete payment via the UCL Online Store and secure your place.

Do not complete the Course Application Form.

Important information

• Submitting the application form does not confirm your place
• You will only be invited to pay once your place has been confirmed
• Your place is confirmed once payment has been received
• Please pay within 48 hours of receiving your payment link to secure your place
• If a course is full, you may be offered a place on a waiting list

Beginners enrolment (Autumn only)

Beginners courses run as a full three-term programme each academic year.

The next enrolment period for beginners will open in August 2026 for the 2026/27 academic year.

After you enrol

It is normal not to hear from us immediately after payment.

We keep enrolment open as long as possible to ensure that courses can run.

Your tutor will usually contact you between one week and 48 hours before your course begins, once enrolment has closed and class lists have been finalised.

If you have not heard from your tutor 48 hours before your first class, please contact eveningcourses@ucl.ac.uk.
