To mark the 10th anniversary of our History, Politics and Economics BA, we’re delighted to offer a special one-off award for incoming students joining us in the 2026/27 academic year.
Find out moreHistory, Politics and Economics are brought to life in the exciting context of Russia and Eastern Europe, and combine some of the most important approaches for understanding the social, cultural, economic and political world around us.
We expect graduates of this degree to have a multitude of transferable skills, combined with specialist knowledge of the region. This degree might lead to careers in government service (UK and other EU states), international agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), consultancy (economic, political risk, security, marketing), banking, financial services, law, media, teaching and the leisure industry, as well as to further study.

As someone who has future diplomatic and leadership aspirations, I believe the teaching methodology at SSEES is vital to creating open minded students who can challenge ideas and critically think about the perspectives they are taught from. Additionally, due to the current political and diplomatic climate of the world, having specialised in Eastern European studies will facilitate my future career opportunities as well as my desire to help contribute to easing tensions between states.
SSEES' library alone is filled with books about a variety of countries in the SSEES region, including ones about my home country I could never find elsewhere. The combined interest I have in studying the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, as well as the numerous guest lectures and opportunities the department provides such as a year abroad, made choosing studying at SSEES a no brainer.
