A department with a distinguished history
The history of philosophy as a subject at UCL goes back to 1830.
From the foundation of the university, philosophy was intended to play an important part in the curriculum.
Many celebrated philosophers including AJ Ayer and Richard Wollheim were appointed Chairs in Philosophy at UCL.
