School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) Associate Professor Ramona Gonczol has won a UCL Widening Participation Award week in the Community Engagement category for leading the work on the Raising Aspirations Project (RAP). This award reflects the dedicated work around her outreach with secondary school students on heritage and community languages.
Alongside Ramona and her work on Romanian language, colleagues from SSEES and the School of European Languages, Culture and Societies (SELCS) contributed to the project; special thanks to Mirela Xhaferraj (Albanian), Yordanka Velkova (Bulgarian), Mazal Oaknin (Spanish) and Daniela Mittelstadt (Portuguese).
The Widening Participation & Student Success Community of Practice Awards 2026 recognise the work of UCL colleagues who aim to make university and subjects more accessible to groups of widening participation students.
Dr Alberto Prati, Lecturer in Economics was also nominated for his work with the Eastside Young Leaders Academy.
