On 19-24 February 2025, academics and staff from UCL Arts & Humanities and UCL Social & Historical Sciences visited New York City and Washington DC.

Professor Stella Bruzzi, Executive Dean of UCL Arts & Humanities, Professor Tim Button, Professor of Philosophy and Logic and Head of Department, and Dr Lara Choksey, Lecturer in Colonial and Postcolonial Literatures in English were joined by Sam Bennett, our Student Recruitment Marketing Officer. Colleagues from Student Recruitment and Advancement led on a series of events and visits for the delegation.

A&H delegates enjoyed meeting prospective students and school counsellors in both locations, showcasing what UCL has to offer across the arts, humanities and social sciences in terms of our degree programmes. Among the institutions visited, the delegation was hosted by Dwight School, Bethesda Chevy Chase School, Rochambeau French International School and Barnard College. It was also a highlight for our delegates to meet with a number of applicants holding an offer to study at UCL in September 2025.

Thank you to everyone who joined the public events that were held on 22 and 23 February in New York and Washington DC respectively, focussing on The Power of a UCL Degree. These were thoughtful conversations, and a big thank you to the panel chairs who did a fantastic job steering our discussions. In New York City, the panel Chair was Professor Jan Kubik, former Director of the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES). In Washington DC, UCL Arts & Humanities alumna, Diana Copeland, who graduated from the Publishing MA in 2010 and has been involved in the Washington DC Alumni Group since 2017, co-leading it from 2020.

It was great to reconnect with so many alumni in New York at a reception at The National Arts Club. Alumni heard from the Deans of both faculties about the latest news and plans for the future before enjoying time to network with the community.

The delegation returned to London in high spirits having connected with a wide variety of stakeholders in both cities. We look forward to future visits to the US to further develop relationships with key stakeholders there.
