UCL Arts & Humanities Announces Faculty Medal 2024 Winner and Nominees
22 July 2024
Congratulations to Carlo De Cristofaro, BA Classics, on being awarded the UCL Arts & Humanities Faculty Medal.

Every year, each UCL faculty awards a medal on the basis of academic excellence to the student who is deemed to have produced outstanding work during the course of their undergraduate degree programme.
This year, the student selected for this academic prize is Carlo De Cristofaro (Classics BA).
Stephen Colvin, Professor of Classics and Historical Linguistics at UCL Greek & Latin, who was Carlo's supervisor, said: "We are delighted that our student Carlo De Cristofaro has won this year's prestigious Faculty Medal. The award is richly deserved. Carlo came to his degree in Classics with a passion for ancient languages. He excelled in ancient Greek and Latin, and also took Sanskrit, Hittite, Old Norse, and went to the Linguistics Department for Phonetics. He developed a driving interest in the way languages change over time, and wrote his final-year dissertation on a curious and difficult dialect of modern Greek which seems to descend from the ancient Doric dialect (the dialect of ancient Sparta). This involved a research trip to a remote region of the Peloponnese in Greece, where he conducted interviews (in Modern Greek) with speakers of this dialect. His dissertation is a real contribution to knowledge about the language of this community, and he will present the results at an international conference later in the summer."
Stella Bruzzi, Executive Dean, UCL Arts & Humanities, said "Many congratulations to our 2024 Arts & Humanities Faculty Medal Winner, Carlo De Cristofaro, and the nominees from across the faculty. I'm delighted that your hugely impressive academic achievements, your hard work and dedication throughout your time at UCL have been recognised in this way, and I look forward to celebrating your success at your upcoming graduation ceremonies. Well done!”
Congratulations to all of the faculty medal nominations on this recognition of their academic achievement throughout their degree!
