Reading and Contemplation in Philo and the Dead Sea Scrolls

Bakker's research explores Jewish literature in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek from the Persian and Greco-Roman periods, focusing on liturgy, Hellenistic Judaism, and the Dead Sea Scrolls. His book The Secret of Time (Brill, 2023) examines time in wisdom texts. Current projects include early Jewish prayer, the Temple cult, and Philo of Alexandria’s fusion of Greek philosophy and Jewish cosmology.
