Julia and Peter Sherwood are celebrated translators of Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Slovak and Russian. She grew up in Rimavská Sobota, Slovakia, and in 2024 completed a master’s degree in graphic art design. While still a student, she published her debut novel, This Room is Impossible to Eat (Táto izba sa nedá zjesť) to immediate acclaim—and controversy. Shortlisted for Slovakia’s most prestigious literary prize, the Anasoft Litera Award, the book engendered an impassioned debate about the portrayal of abuse in literature and the appropriate readership for books dealing with such challenging themes. This Room is Impossible to Eat has been translated into several major languages; received, and been nominated for, further literary awards including the Angelus Literary Prize; and, having received two theatrical adaptations, is being made into a feature film.
