Affiliations with the Industry

A number of translation solutions are used in our taught courses at CenTraS, including Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools such as Translation (Project) Management, Translation Memory and Machine Translation software, and Audiovisual Translation (AVT) and Media Accessibility tools. 

Cloud-based translation tools, such as XTM, XTRF and Memsource Cloud, are also provided through an academic collaboration with XTM International and Memsource.

CAT Tools

CenTraS has been using academic licenses for SDL Trados Studio and MemoQ, in a long-lasting collaboration with SDL and Kilgray, two of the most prominent CAT tool providers in the industry in terms of desktop-based solutions.

SDL TradosStudio is the complete translation environment for language professionals who want to edit, review and manage translation projects as well as corporate terminology. Deliver world-class localized content to support your global sales and marketing efforts with software trusted by over 250,000 translation professionals worldwide.

Kilgray’s memoQ translator pro is designed for individual translators and reviewers who work on their own, or with other translators. It provides all translation-related functionality available in memoQ and also enables translators to connect to the memoQ server.

Cloud-based translation tools, such as XTM and Memsource Cloud, are also provided through an academic collaboration with XTM International and Memsource.

Some of the world’s largest translation agencies use Memsource Cloud as their translation environment of choice. Memsource Cloud supports over 50 file types and includes translation memory, integrated machine translation, terminology management, and a web-based as well as a desktop translator’s editor.

XTM International delivers industry-leading translation technologies to help you save time and money, even in high-volume, multi-language environments.

A number of open-source tools are also included in our teaching, such as OmegaT, Xbench and Wordfast Anywhere.

Machine Translation

CenTraS is taking part in KantanMT University Programme, which offers you free access to its cloud-based platform for learning and research purposes. With KantanMT, you will familiarise yourself with Statistical MT engines, learning how to develop them and measure the quality of their output.

KantanMT.com is a leading Software as a Service (SaaS) MT platform that enables users to develop and manage customised MT engines in the cloud. The innovative technologies offered on the platform enable users to easily build MT engines in over 750 language combinations, seamlessly integrating into localisation workflows and web applications. KantanMT is based in the INVENT Building, DCU Campus, Dublin 9, Ireland.

Audiovisual Translation (AVT) Software

CenTraS is currently collaborating with AVT software companies Screen Systems, OOONA and Yella Umbrella. They specialise in developing products for the preparation and delivery of localised audiovisual content and value-add information services across multiple platforms and devices. Their customers include broadcast networks, producers and service companies.

We use WINCAPS Q4, a subtitle creation software that offers supreme flexibility for the professional subtitler to work effectively and efficiently. Supporting a comprehensive range of workflows, media types and file formats, WINCAPS helps ensure compatibility with all production and delivery requirements, whether subtitling for translation or captioning for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.

We also use OOONA Tools, a cloud-based system that integrates a number of tools and applications to produce, review, convert and burn subtitles. OOONA Tools supports a vast array of media types and file formats and allows to replicate industry workflows in a cloud-based interface. It does not require any installation and even allows to burn subtitles on the video material.

We also use Yella Umbrella’s cloud-based tool Stellar to produce, review and voice narrations for audio description and dubbing and voiceover. It does not require any installation and even allows to record your narrations and descriptions on the video material.
